Hi there, I'm Baby Boston

This is my story.

Maker: AP+I Design

In July of 1961 a young woman was expecting her first child. To round out the furnishings in her nursery, she chose a Boston Rocker rocking chair, which was fitting for her Boston, Massachusetts home. For many years the rocking chair provided the mother and child with the comfort of relaxation and subtle movement. Decades later that same child inherited the rocker and brought it with her to California to cherish it with her grandson. In its newest form, the classic Boston Rocker has become a baby’s bassinet.

We were inspired to preserve its classic form with the rocking base and supportive spindles for a safe frame. Over the years the wood maintained its beauty, so adding subtle accents of yellow with natural woven fabrics radiates a warm and nurturing feel. An upholstered cushion and sewn side pockets were designed to protect the baby and give storage for the mother and trinkets. All the labor work was done locally by our team with the intention of using limited local resources. Although the bassinet focuses it’s movement on the baby alone, it nods to the integrity of a rocker and supports the binding connection between a family and their baby.

Meet Baby Boston.
